Le micro de la sterling a une bibine bobine fantome placée en dessous, qui sert a la position split. Il y a moins de tours sur les bobines de Sterling. A l'origine les Sterling avaient des micros céramique et les Stingray des Alnico mais ce n'est plus le cas.
